DEMOLAY IN
A NUTSHELL
The Basic Principles of a DeMolay:
Love of parents
Respect for others, their beliefs, their opinions, the things they hold sacred
Courtesy toward everyone
Friendship
Faithfulness
Cleanness in thought and action
Patriotism
DeMolay is
the premier youth organization dedicated to teaching young men to be better
persons and leaders.
DeMolay is
for young men between the ages of twelve and twenty-one. DeMolay
members include all types of leaders: United States Presidents, Senators,
Congressmen, State Governors, Astronauts, Professional Athletes, and Chairmen of
major corporations. DeMolay Alumni
include Walt Disney, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather, to name but a
few. Founded in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, DeMolay
has spread to every state in the Union and several countries, including
Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Japan, Panama, and the Philippines.
Currently there are more than one thousand chapters with over one million
alumni.
Under
the advisorship of adults, leadership skills, civic awareness, responsibility
and character development are learned, through a variety of self directed, real
world applications and activities. Some activities DeMolay is involved in are Basketball, Softball, Volleyball,
Swimming, Ski Trips, Camping, and Hiking. Other activities may include
helping clean city parks, collecting food, raising money for seriously and/or
chronically ill children, helping senior citizens, helping local charity groups,
and a host of other worthwhile projects.
Through
these and other activities, the young men of DeMolay
develop reverence for one’s own beliefs and respect for others’ beliefs,
to love their parents, to be courteous, faithful, and patriotic, all of which
prepare the young men of DeMolay to
be Tomorrow’s
Leaders Today!

Squires of the Round Table
Raymond Fowlkes Chapter, Order of DeMolay, is now sponsoring a
Manor of Squires of the Round Table. Boys
8 through 12 can join. Anyone
interested should attend the meetings at Rockford Lodge on the first and third
Thursdays of each month at 6:30PM. A parent or guardian must accompany the
Squire at all meetings and activities. The following is descriptive of the
organization.
The
Order of the Squires of the Round Table was established in 1995 in Vancouver,
Washington, as a pledge for the International Order of DeMolay. Its
mission is to allow young men ages 8 through 12 to have an opportunity to
participate in some of the fun activities with DeMolay but not to be overwhelmed
with the age differences and ritual work that is part of DeMolay.
How
A Manor Runs
There
are up to seven Squire Officers, three of whom are elected by their peers.
Elected Officers are Master Squire, Senior Squire, and Junior Squire. Appointed
Officers are Squire Chaplain, Squire Marshal, Squire Recorder, and Squire
Treasurer.
During
each term of six months, the Master Squire should plan at least one fun activity
and at least one fund raising activity. The events must be approved by the Sir
Knight and the Dad/Mom Advisor.
A
Dad/Mom Advisor, who is a member of the DeMolay Chapter Advisory Council, must
be present at all Squire meetings and functions. He
or she should sit on the sidelines, and is mainly the advisor for the Sir
Knight, allowing the Sir Knight and the elected officers to run the meeting.
The
Squire Manor has a DeMolay who acts as their advisor. His title is the Sir
Knight, and he is appointed by the Master Councilor of the Sponsoring DeMolay
Chapter and approved by the Advisory Council of the Chapter. The Sir Knight sits
to the left of the Master Squire's station. His main job to
be a big brother to the Squires. His term parallels the DeMolay chapter,
and he can serve more than one term if the Advisory Council and Master Councilor
approve.
